Tips for Grade-Schoolers
- Always tell your parents where you will be.
- Travel in groups, or with a friend. There is safety in numbers.
- Do not go into areas that are dark and vacant.
- Do not take dares to go into poorly lit or dangerous places.
- Do not accept job offers, rides or gifts from a stranger.
- If you see someone hanging around school, tell an adult that you trust. Remember as
much detail as possible - Are they driving a car? What did they look like? What were
they wearing? Are they short or tall?
- If a person you know asks you to go with him/her, do not go unless you first get
permission from your parents. Let the person know that your parents know where you are.
- It is not fun to run away from home. Nothing is so terrible that you can't tell
someone you trust. Call a friend or Child Find Nova Scotia at 454-2030 for more help.
- Do not answer the door if you are home alone, and don't tell anyone that you are
home alone.
- If someone keeps calling, phone the police.
- If someone tries to enter your home, call the police immediately.
- If people in cars ask directions, step back away from the car and tell the people
that you do not know, then walk away quickly.
- If someone touches you in a way that feels bad, say "NO" and tell an adult you
trust. Nobody has the right to touch you in a way that feels bad. Remember, you did
nothing wrong.
- If you are scared or frightened, go to a safe house. Your parent(s) can tell you
which houses are safe. Know what Block Parent means and where the nearest Block Parent
is.
