Volunteer Opportunities
Not all volunteer opportunities may be offered at a given time. The following is an
overview of typical functions and roles which Child Find volunteers fill:
All About Me ID - Child Find fingerprints thousands of children across Canada each
year. Children, accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, are fingerprinted/footprinted
by police-trained volunteers. Parents/guardians receive the fingerprints in a booklet
entitled All About Me I.D. which is a detailed, descriptive questionnaire for
parents/guardians to complete about their child. This completed document is kept only by
parents/guardians- Child Find does not keep copies of the information. Volunteers at
fingerprinting clinics will do the fingerprinting, offer explanations and information to
parents/guardians.
Information Booths/Mall Displays/Public Forums - Child Find will arrange to set up
in a public place, at a mall, a fair, sports event or other public event. The objective is
to heighten awareness of Child Find and its work concerning the issues of missing children,
and also to provide educational material to parents and children.
Public Speaking - With guidance from our training and education manuals, and videos,
volunteers build public speaking and program delivery skills by talking to parent groups,
children's groups, service clubs and organizations. Our education program is aimed at
creating a street proofing awareness to help reduce the future numbers of missing
children.
Poster Distribution - This very important task requires volunteers to place, update
and remove Child Find posters and flyers of missing children in high visibility areas
around the community. Volunteers must keep good records of where posters have been
placed.
Special Events: Promotions/ Fundraising - Volunteers can use or develop their
marketing and public relations skills by planning and co-ordinating events which will raise
both funds and public awareness of Child Find and missing children's issues.
Office Assistance - Help is always welcome around the office! Volunteers can answer
phones, file documents, assist with computerized data entry and organize program
materials. |
